Green Freight Europe at 2nd EcoTransIt World Stakeholder Workshop
18-04-2012
Green Freight Europe was invited to the 2nd EcoTransIT
World Stakeholder Workshop which took place on 18 April 2012 at
Hapag-Lloyd Headquarters in Hamburg. Several Green Freight Europe
member companies attended the workshop.
The Green Freight Europe programme was represented by Chantal
van Schaik from TNT Express. She presented a short introduction to
the vision of the Green Freight Europe programme, a list of
members, an insight in the governance structure and a short status
update on the developments of the programme. The audience was
interested to see the programme's intentions for labelling green
transport in the near future and seemed positive towards the
developments and ambitions.
The main contents of the workshop were:
- Giving insight into latest developments of the online
calculator EcoTransIT World
- Showing features as well as best practices
- Opening the floor to a new platform of networking and
exchanging experience- a platform across companies and modes
searching for alignment of data and methodologies. To this end
other initiatives of carbon accounting (such as Green Freight
Europe, Clean Cargo Working Group and NTM) presented their
activities.
During the workshop it became quite apparent that all
initiatives share the opinion there is a need for alignment of
methodologies and initiatives. The CEN standards as presented
during the workshop covers many aspects of carbon accounting and
reporting but will not resolve all issues in alignment. There was
also still some debate on the necessity of a regulatory or
voluntary approach. The EU representative of DG Move was very
interested to hear the opinion of the audience on the role the EU
should play in this field. Green Freight Europe is likely to be
invited to join further discussions on these topics.
